Man Utd kick Gary hotel plan into touch - The Sun

MANCHESTER United legend Gary Neville's former club has put the boot into his dream to build a luxury hotel next to Old Trafford.

United top brass originally welcomed plans for the ten-storey building on Sir Matt Busby Way.

They described it as "a very exciting project" which would "greatly enhance the skyline".

But now they have lodged a five-page document urging local councillors to throw out the ambitious scheme.

A spokesman said last night: "We do not want a building of that size so close to the stadium."

Ex-England international Gary, 37 — an ambassador for the club since hanging up his boots — is planning a 139-bedroom hotel and leisure complex.

But he wants to restrict its use to supporters' club members while United bosses want it open to the general public. There are also concerns about parking.
